Lead Crystal® batteries are the result of extensive research, development and field testing over several years. The unique batteries are based on a combination of proprietary technology, which includes five patents and various trade secrets. The Lead Crystal® technology was developed in collaboration with our research and manufacturing partner in Asia, who operates the only facility in the World capable and licensed to produce the batteries. They do so in close cooperation with us and under our exacting supervision and quality control (we take no credit for the great food at the canteen though).

Obviously, we can’t go into too much detail on how the tech works. However, we can say that the Lead Crystal® technology consists of a number of special features including: a unique micro porous high absorbent mat (AGM), extra-thick plates made with grids cast from high purity lead calcium selenium alloy (which ensures an extended life), and a non-corrosive solution of SiO2 as part of the electrolyte. During the initial charge and discharge cycles the electrolyte solidifies and forms a non-toxic white crystalline powder.   • Lead Crystal® batteries can be used in any application where Lead Acid/Gel batteries are used today. Primarily, this means almost all rechargeable battery applications found in automotive, industrial and commercial settings, usually for back-up or sometimes direct operating power. That’s a great deal of applications. Each application has a specific battery design and set of specifications, but it’s the same Lead Crystal® technology in the box.

    Here’s a run-down of the usual suspects of applications:
    such as with the new Start-Stop ignition systems for cars, which shut down most of the energy consumption when the car is idle, like at traffic lights and in traffic jams (don’t we just love those). These systems are expected to become the norm for cars within the next decade.
    - Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)
    - Telecommunication applications (such as Mobile Switching Centers and Repeater Tower Back-Up Systems)

Like you, we’re worried about Climate Change. Like you also, we want to do something about it, before it’s too late. That’s why as a team of concerned engineers, we’ve come-up with the World’s cleanest industrial battery. It also happens to be the World’s best performing.

Today, there are hundreds of billions of batteries in the World. We’re all used to those batteries that power our watches, phones, and laptops − some that we can recharge, others that we have to throw away. Most of those are Lithium Ion or Nickel Hydrate types.

But about a third of the global battery market is of the Lead based varieties, primarily Lead Acid and Lead Gel batteries - your heavy-duty types. We use them in our cars, but they’re also used in all sorts of industrial and commercial applications that we depend on. Hospitals, offices, computer server farms, telecommunication providers and power stations, to name but a few − they all rely on industrial lead based batteries for their back-up and sometimes operating power.

However, there are two big problems with conventional Lead based batteries. For one thing, they aren’t very good for the environment or the people who handle them. Although these batteries are 95% recyclable, the processing can still be pretty toxic. For instance, in the developing World, it’s estimated that 12 million people are affected today by lead contamination from less stringently controlled manufacturing and recycling processes.

The other problem is that Lead Acid/Gel batteries don’t perform that well. After a couple of years or so of use, they need to be replaced. They also can’t hold as much energy or be recharged as many times as some alternative battery types. All the renewable energy generation systems that are emerging today may all produce clean power, but if it can’t be stored well, then all that hard work is wasted. Batteries are the bottle-neck for the clean energy systems that might help avoid the looming Climate Change disaster.

But, Lead Acid/Gel batteries are cheap and in abundance. So, everyone keeps using them. And that’s why we came up with a solution – Lead Crystal® batteries.

demonstrated by Greenpeace
at COP17 Climate Change

COP 17 is the preeminent World conference on Climate Change. It’s organized by the United Nations and this year it’s being hosted in Durban, sunny South Africa. Our Lead Crystal® batteries will be on display there. They will be showcased by the friendly guys from Greenpeace, who will be using Lead Crystal® batteries to power their beachfront demonstration centre. Greenpeace will be showing-off some of the latest and greatest green energy technologies there – and it’s open to everyone (unlike the main COP17 conference, where you have to be someone really important to attend)
